Class 1 – March 7th 4pm to 6pm Pacific Time

Introduction to the Dao De Jing 道德經and its significance. Overview of Chapter 1 of the Dao De Jing, introduction to key concepts : Dao 道 and De 德. Chapter 1 and its psycho-linguistic emphasis, significance to other related chapters in the Dao De Jing, philosophical overlap with buddhist concepts of emptiness as described in the Heart Sutra 心經.

Class 2 – March 21 4pm to 6pm Pacific Time
The concept of emptiness 虛無 in the Dao De Jing. It’s role in psychology, skill, and human affairs. The cosmic centrality of emptiness. Emptiness as the goal of the sage, the return to the original state, and the reunion with the source of all phenomena. An examination of selected chapters and lines.
Class 3 – April 4th 4pm to 6pm Pacific Time

Water and Nature in the Dao De Jing
Chapters 8, 17, 25, 78

Class 4 – April 18th 4pm to 6pm Pacific Time

Wuwei 無為 “Non-ado” and the sage 聖人 in the Dao De Jing. Chapters 2, 3, 5

Class 5 – May 2nd 4pm to 6pm Pacific Time
Summary of previous lectures and a return to Chapter 1. The means by which we can attain both Dao 道 and D 德.The interweaving of the internal cognitive paradigm with the external world of events to create a state of harmony between self and other. How a correct way of seeing the world leads to successful action and correct relationship. Review and synthesis of previous four lectures.

Gabriel Weiss received his Masters in Science of Oriental Medicine his Naturopathic Doctorate from the National University of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon.
As a licensed acupuncturist, Dr. Weiss’ practice focuses on understanding human physiology and treating pathology combining Western and Chinese perspectives.
Throughout his graduate study, Gabriel delved into both the Chinese medical classics and German writings fundamental to the advent of naturopathic medicine in the West, producing translations into English. His translation of Dr. Liu Lihong’s masterpiece Classical Chinese Medicine was recently published by the Hong Kong University Press.
